You must also be comfortable swimming long distances in variable river and tidal conditions.

Derwent River Big Swim Pilots

Each swim is solo and scheduled with your pilot based on weather, tide, and temperature.

The main swim season runs from November to March.

You can choose from the pilot panel or organise your own pilot, provided they are experienced and familiar with the Derwent River.

Pilots will help determine your swim date, start time, and safety requirements.

Complete the application and make payment

After confirming your pilot and reading the rules, complete the application form and waiver.

Pay the registration fee before your swim to ensure your result is ratified and eligible for the Australian Triple Crown.

The fee covers official swim submission and verification.
